“…The criteria for exclusion from the study included (1) known contraindications to the topical or systemic use of /3-blocking agents; (2) aphakia, chronic ocular inflam¬ mation, history of intraocular surgery, or any corneal abnormalities preventing reliable applanation tonometry; (3) severe glaucoma uncontrolled by concomitant administration of two or more antiglauco¬ ma drugs; (4) severe diabetes requiring frequent changes in insulin dosage; (5) contact lens wear during the study; (6) the use of adrenergic-augmenting psychotropic,^-blocking, or steroid medications dur¬ ing the study; (7) complete blood cell or blood chemistry analyses suggesting the presence of disease; and (8) pregnancy, anticipated pregnancy, or nursing. Written informed consent was obtained from all study participants.…”

“…Short-term studies of 0.5% and 1% levobunolol (112) and 0.3% to 2% levobunolol (113) showed dose dependent reductions in pressure in glaucomatous eyes without substantial side effects. In a one month trial, levobunolol (1%) was as effective as timolol (0.5%) in reducing IOP in glaucoma patients but with significant reductions in heart rate and diastolic blood pressure (112). Nadolol (2%) reduced IOP in glaucoma patients equipotent to timolol (0.5%) for four weeks (114).…”

“…Levobunolol senkt den erhöhten Augeninncndruck bei Patienten mit okulärer Hyper tension und Glaukom [1,2], Levobunolol (0,5 und 1%) erwies sich dabei als ebenso wirksam wie 0,5°/oiges Timolol [3][4][5][6]. Die subjektive Verträglichkeit von Lcvobunolol war ausgezeichnet [4], Metipranolol ist ebenfalls wirksam bei der Behandlung des erhöhten Augeninnendrukkes.…”
