A CLINICAL COMPARISON of IN -OFFICE MANAGEMENT OF DENTIN HYPERSENSITIVITY IN A SHORT TERM TREATMENT PERIOD

Abstract: Objective:To determine the differences in efficiency of four desensitizing agents in relieving dentin hypersensitivity in a time period of 2 weeks. Material and methods: 50 participants who responded positively to intraoral testing for dentin hypersensitivity using a split-mouth-designed study were recruited for the study.

“…Clinpro™ XT varnish (3M ESPE, Pymble, New South Wales, Australia), an RMGIC product, has been widely used previously for treating dentinal hypersensitivity [24, 25]. In orthodontics, it is shown to be effective in preventing WSLs from occurring during orthodontic treatment [23, 26, 27] and treating artificially induced demineralized areas [28].…”

“…Previous studies have evaluated the desensitizing activity of Clinpro XT Varnish (8,(17)(18)(19). An in vitro comparison between Clinpro XT and a conventional Values of groups with the same uppercase letters were not significantly different in the same row, and those with the same lowercase letters were not significantly different in the same column (p>0.05).…”

“…The varnish has the potential for more controlled and sustained release of fluoride (Zhou et al, 2012) and also has the capacity to protect exposed tooth surfaces from demineralization (Sohn et al, 2012). This varnish is also widely used for the treatment of tooth sensitivity, high-risk caries, acid erosion and as temporary protective coating for immature enamel (Bhandary and Hegde, 2012). However , there is no study mentioning the efficacy of this new resin-modified glass ionomer cement varnish in the prevention and reduction of WSLs among patients undergoing comprehensive orthodontic treatment.…”
