A Class of Multimode Transmultiplexers Based on the Farrow Structure

Abstract: This paper introduces multimode transmultiplexers (TMUXs) in which the Farrow structure realizes the polyphase components of general lowpass interpolation/decimation filters. As various lowpass filters are obtained by one set of common Farrow subfilters, only one offline filter design enables us to cover different integer sampling rate conversion (SRC) ratios. A model of general rational SRC is also constructed where the same fixed subfilters perform rational SRC. These two SRC schemes are then used to constru… Show more

“…The main difference between the approaches in [25][26][27][28][29] lies in the implementation of the SRC blocks C p andĈ p . However, they all utilize the Farrow structure 9 and aim to design the system in such a way that, at any time, any user can transmit/receive data streams with any bandwidth and centered at any point in the frequency spectrum.…”

“…For this purpose, transmultiplexer-based (TMUX-based) approaches [25][26][27][28][29] capable of generating different user signals with different bandwidths will be discussed. These approaches support systems which dynamically move between different access technologies along the available spectrum pool [5].…”

“…Any of the TMUXs, in the references Eghbali et al (2007a;2008a;2009b;2010); Eghbali, Johansson & Löwenborg (2011a;, can be used here. The TMUX, in Eghbali et al (2010);Eghbali, Johansson & Löwenborg (2011b), has a rather different structure.…”

“…The TMUX, in Eghbali et al (2010);Eghbali, Johansson & Löwenborg (2011b), has a rather different structure. Instead of variable lowpass filters and frequency shifters as, in Eghbali et al (2007a;2008a;2009b); Eghbali, Johansson & Löwenborg (2011a), it performs bandpass rational SRC using flexible commutators and fixed bandpass filters. However, one can generally describe it in terms of Fig.…”
