A circular CPW‐FED slot antenna for broadband circularly polarized radiation

Abstract: The design of a circular slot antenna for obtaining broadband circularly polarized (CP) radiation using a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed is presented. The operation of the proposed antenna is achieved by protruding metallic mono‐strip from the circular ground plane towards the slot center at ϕ = 0° and feeding antenna using a 50‐Ω CPW with a protruded single strip at ϕ = 270°. In this design, the impedance bandwidth and 3 dB axial‐ratio bandwidth can reach as large as 50 and 36%, respectively. The peak of anten… Show more

“…Having various advantages of low radiation loss, less dispersion, and scope of easy integration with solid state devices, coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed becomes more attractive than microstrip feed . Therefore, CPW‐fed CP slot antenna have drawn more attraction recently . In , CP is obtained by etching a longitudinal slot at a middle point of a stair‐shaped slot.…”

“…Coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed wideband circularly polarized slot antennas have drawn more attraction over microstrip feed due to their various advantages such as low radiation loss, low dispersion, and scope of easy integration with solid state devices [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. A dual-band circularly polarized slot antenna is proposed in [8].…”

“…As compared to microstrip antennas, printed slot antennas have the features of low‐quality factor, coplanar structure with ground plane, and bidirection radiation. Consequently, a considerable number of the CP designs for the slot antenna have been proposed , and moreover the comparisons among the antenna sizes of the previous deigns are given in . According to the comparison results, it is indicated that the design using a wide slot gives more CP operating bandwidth than that using a ring slot, but the former has a larger antenna size, ground plane included, than the latter.…”
