A checklist of the aphyllophoroid fungi (<I>Basidiomycota</I>) recorded from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

Abstract: The Atlantic Forest is one of the most diverse and threatened biomes of the world. A list with 733 species of aphyllophoroid fungi reported from the Brazilian Altantic Forest is presented based on an intensive search of literature records. These species are distributed in 219 genera and 47 families. Polyporaceae is the most highly represented family with 153 species; Phellinus is the genus with the highest number of species (42).

“…In Brazil, this species was reported for the Atlantic Rain Forest, Amazon (Baltazar and Gibertoni 2009; Gomes-Silva and Gibertoni 2009). However, we suggest that some specimens from different regions should be taxonomically revised as an attempt to delimit the taxon and its geographical distribution.…”

“…Notes on distribution: cosmopolitan species (Ryvarden 2004). In Brazil, this species was recorded for the Atlantic Rain Forest, Amazon, and Cerrado biomes (Baltazar and Gibertoni 2009;Gibertoni and Drechsler-Santos 2010;Gomes-Silva et al 2011a). Although, widely distributed, as showed by Gugliotta et al (2012), G. resinaceum presents great morphological variation as well, suggesting that the species might be a taxonomic complex.…”

“…It is the only fungus that contains alpha-parinaric acid. The species was cited for Brazil in Amazon as C. cristata (Gibertoni et al 2015) and for the States of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul (Baltazar & Gibertoni 2009 It is a fungus used mixed with other to protect bees. That mix increases bees' resistance to diseases, to pesticides, pollution and draught.…”

“…Several lists on Agaricomycetes were also published: species in Brazil (Putzke 1994), in the Amazon Rainforest (Silva & Gibertoni 2009), in the Atlantic Rainforest (Baltazar & Gibertoni 2009), in the semiarid (Drechsler-Santos et al 2009) and in the Cerrado (Gibertoni & Drechsler-Santos 2010). These publications considered specific groups (eg, plant parasitic) or focused on the diversity of fungi in some regions or states of the federation.…”
