A checklist of nematode parasites from Indonesian murids

Abstract: A checklist of nematode parasites from Indonesian murids with their geographic distribution is presented. This checklist is compiled from three sources: the catalogue of nematode parasites of Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (unpublished specimens in the collection), data from our previous research and articles on nematodes of Indonesian murids. This checklist is presented as a list of nematode parasites with host information, and a host list with information on their nematodes. This paper reports 38 nominal speci… Show more

“…Subulura ( Murisubulura ) andersoni (Cobbold, 1876) (Nematoda: Subuluridae) is widely distributed in the areas ranging from India to Australia [ 2 , 3 , 8 , 10 , 17 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ]. Although it was first described from a sciurid in India [ 2 ], this nematode is known as a common parasite of murine rodents in Indonesia [ 3 ]. Some related species have been proposed to this subgenus, namely Subulura ( Murisubulura ) suzukii Yagi & Kamiya, 1981 and Subulura ( Murisubulura ) sipiroki Purwaningsih, 2003 from murids of Japan and Indonesia, respectively [ 12 , 27 ].…”

“…Hasegawa & Syafruddin (1995) examined 29 R. tanezumi (recorded as R. rattus) and 20 R. exulans on Halmahera Island, but could not collect species of Trichuris. In the checklist of murine helminths of Indonesia by Dewi & Purwaningsih (2013), only one record of T. muris from Bunomys chrysocomus, an endemic rat in Sulawesi, was cited. Meanwhile, T. muris has been recorded from commensal murines, i.e., Rattus norvegicus, R. rattus and Mus musculus in Australia (cf.…”
