A Case Study to Evaluate the Indoor Global Quality

Abstract: Abstract. This paper proposes two complementary procedures for assessing the global quality comfort: the first one, prevalently objective, is based on the acquisition of microclimate measured data and computed subjective values; the second one, that is purely subjective, uses a questionnaire drawn from the ISO/DP 10551 Recommendation. An application to some lecture-halls and laboratories of the school is here showed.

“…Malta's target is considerable, although it is lower than other European Countries, because Malta presents quite particular conditions, such as other Mediterranean islands: high population density, limited available land and an ever increasing electricity demand. In order to achieve the environmental and energetic targets [8], Malta will have to use all available renewable sources [9]. Moreover, Malta's electrical grid needs several developments in order to minimize the electrical problems caused by varying power outputs of RES, such as wind, solar and sea wave [10].…”

“…PV technology now has very high standards, thanks to its characteristic of modularity, great reliability and low maintenance. In this work the installation of PV panels on building roofs is assumed, in order to avoid the use of the small island's land [42]. Furthermore, in order to preserve buildings of relevance from a historical point of view, we excluded the installation on buildings like "Dammusi" and "Giardini Panteschi", …”

“…The increasing concerns for the global environmental effects of greenhouse emissions, resulting from energy consumption, make relevant the current role of renewable sources in a regional policy context [4,5]; local authorities are called to play a remarkable role with strategies improving the energy efficiency and sustainability in all energetic uses [6,7] and replacing, as possible, fossil-based technology with proper renewable energy technologies [8,9].…”
