Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a chronic and recurrent upper gastrointestinal symptom that has no organic cause. A 49-year-old male patient positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) visited the clinic because of FD and constipation. He received complex Korean medicine treatment, including acupuncture and herbal medicines, from April 14 to July 18, 2022 (27 times) in the outpatient department. Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS), Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI), FD-related quality of life (FD-QoL), Euro QoL visual analog scale (EQ-VAS), and Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) were used as evaluation tools in this study. Symptoms were relieved after 3 months of treatment, and his QoL improved (GSRS, NDI, liveliness status, psychological, 1-0; role-functioning status, 18-9]; EQ-VAS, 40-65; NRS, 8-4). The results revealed that complex Korean medicine treatment could alleviate FD and constipation in patients with HIV.

Objective: The purpose of this case study was to report the effects of Korean medicine treatment on a patient diagnosed with postgastrectomy syndrome (PGS).Methods: The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion in combination with Western medicine for 3 months.Results: Though abdominal tenderness was maintained at a similar level, other clinical symptoms (epigastric pain, globus pharyngis, and epigastric pain) were improved after Korean medicine treatment.Conclusions: These results suggest that the need to promote practical research on PGS, should receive greater attention in the Korean medical community.

Obesity often develops to hypothyroidism patients because thyroid hormone is associated with changes in body weight, body temperature, and energy expenditure. Obesity is not only pointed out as the cause of various other diseases, but also can worsen thyroid function, so obesity treatment is essential for hypothyroidism patients. But there is lack of studies about obesity treatment for hypothyroidism patients in Korea. In this study, two obese patients who diagnosed hypothyroidism were treated by Korean medicine. We prescribed herbal medicine (Banhabakchulchunma-tang) for about 2 months. A total of 6.5 kg and 4.5 kg of weight loss were observed respectively, and there were no serious side effects. Further large-scale clinical trials are needed to evaluate the anti-obesity effect and the effect of thyroid function improvement.
