“…HPV-60 was also identified in 2 other cutaneous lesions, palmoplantar epidermoid cysts [9, 10, 11]and ridged warts [12, 13], in which Hg-ICBs were also observed.…”

“…Using primers specific for these viruses, we identified a putative novel type of γ-papillomavirus that is most closely related to, though very distinct from (69% homologous in the amplified L1 region), HPV60. The warts caused by HPV60 show diverse clinical presentations including pigmented warts [40,41,58,59], palmoplantar epidermoid cysts [60,61,62,63,64] and ridged warts [59,61,65], but lesions clinically and histologically resembling EV have not been reported previously.…”

“…Thereafter, Honda et al [8]and Kashima et al [9]independently reported peculiar plantar warts with a smooth surface, retaining the appearance of dermal ridges (ridged wart), in which HPV-60 was also identified. No pigmentation was seen in these lesions, although they had the same CPE as HPV 60-induced pigmented warts with homogeneous intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies.…”

“…Since only a limited number of cases have been reported for HPV-60-induced warts of the pigmented [3, 10, 12], nonpigmented [8, 9, 12]and cystic types [7, 9, 13, 14, 15], comparative studies between clinicopathological features and lesion-, host- and virus-related factors should be performed in a much larger number of patients to ascertain the true nature of HPV-60-induced warts. Factors that need to be studied include duration, anatomical location or history of previous treatment of the lesions, presence or absence of accompanying pigmentary disorders, immunological status or ethnic difference in the patients, or some divergences in HPV-60 DNA sequences among lesions.…”
