A Case of Cystic Dermal Duct Tumor Corresponding to Poroid Hidradenoma

Abstract: A case of dermal duct tumor on the back of a 61-year-old male, representing a cystic lesion, is reported. Such cystic dermal duct tumors seem to be considered poroid hidradenomas according to the recently suggested classification of poromas. Poroid hidradenoma is rarely mentioned in the literature, and no description of its clinical features has yet been published. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) immunostaining was positive in the tumor cells adjacent to the cystic space. We suppose that these CEA-positive cell… Show more

“…Hidracanthoma simplex unaccompanied by another type of poroma often presents clinically as a scaly, brown, or erythematous plaque (18,19). The few reported cases (6)(7)(8)(9), including ours, indicate that one clinical feature of poroid hidradenoma is apparently an erythematous or brownish, often cystic, cutaneous or subcutaneous nodule. The two histological portions of the lesion were reflected in the clinical presentation in our patient Hidradenomas are benign, multilobulated, sweat gland tumors usually confined to the dermis.…”

“…In addition to the three poroma types, Abenoza and Ackerman (4) recently described a fourth type of poroma, poroid hidradenoma, which is a tumor with solid and cystic components located entirely within the dermis. There have been four case reports of a tumor identified as poroid hidradenoma published .. thus far; all of the tumors were confined to within the dermis and unaccompanied by other types of poroma (6)(7)(8)(9). We report herein a case of poroma in which the features of eccrine poroma and poroid hidradenoma were found in a single lesion, both clinically and histologically.…”

“…This patient’s presentation demonstrates the difficulty in diagnosing this type of lesion, as it was suspected to be a lipoma or sebaceous cyst. If a partial excision or lancing is performed (as is sometimes performed for a lipoma or sebaceous cyst, respectively), these lesions are at high risk of recurrence 3 . Thus, we recommend a more substantive and complete excision to remove skin and surrounding soft tissue.…”

“…Review of the literature revealed that 10 cases of poroid hidradenoma have been reported, [1][2][3][4][5] but information on the clinical and cytologic findings is relatively limited. We describe here a case of poroid hidradenoma with an emphasis on the FNAC findings.…”
