The temperature rise calculation of core-type power transformers is an essential question in the design process however this is neglected during the preliminary optimization process. The methods of the calculation methods are classified and introduced shortly and they applicability is examined for the preliminary design process. For comparison of the methods performance, two core arrangements were examined, the Roth's transformer and a 50 MVA three-phase transformers' core. The result shows that the FEM method provides the most accurate solution however according to its simplicity, the Ryder's method has better performance in the preliminary design stage.

Elektrik güç transformatörleri, güç iletim ve dağıtım sistemlerinin en önemli bileşenlerinden biridir. Bu transformatörler, hem çalışma hem de sabit durum modunda kendiliğinden ısı-yayarlar. Transformatörlerde bulunan bu termal radyasyon izin verilebilir eşiğin üzerine çıkarsa, transformatörün veriminde bir azalma meydana gelir. Bu durum, sistemdeki diğer bileşenlerin arızalanmasına da neden olabilir. Bu yüzden transformatörlerin üretiminden önce tasarım aşamasında termal kayıplarının tahmin edilmesi önem teşkil etmektedir. Çekirdek tipi güç transformatörlerinin sıcaklık artışının hesaplaması tasarım sürecinde temel bir sorudur ancak bu sorun ön optimizasyon sürecinde hesap karmaşasından dolayı ihmal edilebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, hesaplama yöntemleri kısaca sınıflandırılarak tanıtılmış ve ön tasarım süreci için uygulanabilirlikleri incelenmiştir. Yöntemlerin performanslarının karşılaştırılması için, Roth'un transformatörü ve 15 MVA üç fazlı transformatör analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlardan, Sonlu Elemanlar Yönteminin (SEY) en doğru çözümü sağladığı ve ön tasarım sürecinde daha iyi uyum gösterdiği anlaşılmıştır.
