A Blocking Enzyme‐Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) for Bovine Virus Diarrhoea Virus Serology

Abstract: Summary A blocking enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection and titration of serum antibodies to bovine virus diarrhoea (BVD) virus is described. The ELISA was compared with a virus neutralization (VN) test. A positive correlation was found between the BVD virus antibody titres measured with the two tests and an equal effectiveness was found in measuring maternal antibodies. The VN test appeared to be more sensitive in detecting an early immune response as shown by the results of an experime… Show more

“…Sera were tested in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays for antibodies directed against glycoprotein gI of pseudorabies virus (21), porcine parvovirus (28), bovine viral diarrhoea virus (29), and hog cholera virus (24). Starting dilutions were 1:5, after which the sera were diluted twofold.…”

“…The correlation coefficient existing between the serum neutralization titration and the blocking ELISA-which can be considered very good for two test methods based on different principles (Westenbrink et al, 1986;Zhzng et al, 1990)-indicates that blocking ELISA is suitable for replacing the conventional procedure both in diagnostic work and in control operations of vaccine production.…”
