A Bidirectional Scattering Function Reconstruction Method Based on Optimization of the Distribution of Microrelief Normals

Abstract: The paper is devoted to the development of a method for reconstructing the scattering properties of a rough surface. The rough surface, in this case, is the dielectricair interface. Typically, these properties are described by the bidirectional scattering distribution function. Direct measuring of such functions is either impossible, or its cost is very high. The method of reconstructing the bidirectional scattering distribution function, based on the distribution of the elevations of the microrelief, requires… Show more

“…Part of them is based on pure numerical methods in which a BSDF is calculated by ray tracing simulation through an explicit geometry model of rough surface. The method based on the normal density distribution of rough surfaces is proposed in [26,27]. In this method the micro-relief is simulated with the help of distribution of normals represented with an analytical function having a set of parameters defined with the help of the optimization process.…”

“…Numerical methods are based on building a geometry model of rough surface and calculation of BSDF by light simulation. The method based on the normal density distribution of rough surfaces is proposed in [1,33] and on the height distribution -in [34]. Here a micro-relief is built with help of normal or height distribution represented by an analytical function which parameters are defined with help of the optimization process.…”
