“…Amiodarone is the most effective antiarrhythmic drug for maintaining sinus rhythm in atrial fibrillation patients. Unfortunately, droneradone is clearly less effective in maintaining sinus rhythm than amiodarone [154,155]. Beyond isolated case reports, there is little evidence that dronedarone has significant efficacy in treatment of ventricular arrhythmias [155,156].…”

“…This is supported by a study demonstrating that at equimolar concentrations dronedarone had greater alveolar macrophage toxicity than amiodarone. 4 There have been three case reports of organising pneumonia with dronedarone implicated as a contributing factor, 5,6 with a fatality in one of the three cases despite removal of the causative agent and administration of pulsed methylprednisolone in all cases. There has also been one reported case of diffuse alveolar damage attributed to dronedarone again treated with methylprednisolone with a successful outcome.…”

“…Nonetheless, there are case reports which implicate dronedarone as causing pulmonary toxicity with its use. 8183 Dronedarone-related pulmonary toxicity has also been described in patients with prior amiodarone use, which raises concerns of cross-reactivity. 84 The use of dronedarone is contraindicated in patients with advanced heart failure.…”
