A 20 W, Less-Than-1-kHz Linewidth Linearly Polarized All-Fiber Laser

Abstract: We report a continuous-wave high-output power and narrow-linewidth all-fiber laser at 1550 nm with the master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) configuration. An all-fiber distributed feedback seed laser was boosted by three cascaded fiber amplifiers. In the experiment, we adopted a large-mode-area (LMA) Er 3+ :Yb 3+-co-doped polarization-maintaining fiber to increase nonlinear thresholds and avoided the broadening of the laser linewidth. A linear-polarization fiber laser with average output power of 20 W, lin… Show more

“…The high-power narrow linewidth laser near 1.5 µm has received increasing attention [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. In particular, the fiber laser at 1560 nm can be used not only in coherent detection, but also to generate a laser with 780 nm by a frequency doubling effect.…”

“…In this work, we present nonlinear parametric amplification in the red and near-infrared region via cascaded-Raman-assisted FWM processes by pre-compressing the input pulse of the main amplifier [12][13][14]. In this all-fiber scheme, a compact, self-made fiber laser oscillator provided the fundamental pulse at 1030 nm with 4.3 ps pulse-duration.…”

“…The self-heterodyne system with a 3 km long delay fiber (SMF-28e) is used to test the linewidth of the 2.0 μm fiber laser. 29,30) The selfheterodyne signal of the 1950 nm LP-SFFL at the maximum output power is measured and displayed in Fig. 5(b).…”

“…The spectral linewidth curve is fitted into the Lorenz profile with a 20 dB spectral width of 168 kHz, which indicates that the 3 dB linewidth is about 8.4 kHz. Compared with that of the seed laser, the spectral linewidth of the laser output from the amplification does not broaden, 29,31) which results from no evident ASE in the optical spectrum. 32,33) The PER of the 1950 nm LP-SFFL versus the output power is measured and shown in Fig.…”
