9-Anthraldehyde oxime: a synthetic tool for variable applications

Abstract: Oximes are one of the most important and prolific functional groups in organic chemistry; among them, 9-anthraldehyde oxime represents a valuable example both from the preparative side and the synthetic applications. There are many strategies to prepare 9-anthraldehyde oxime from different functional groups that were summarized in the present review, focusing on the most recent and innovative. The main synthetic applications of 9-anthraldehyde oxime are presented and thoroughly discussed, focusing on the most … Show more

“…The 31 P NMR spectrum (DMSO-d6) revealed the presence of the phosphate group as a singlet at  -0.10 ppm for compound 7aA and at  -2.10 ppm for compound 7aB, in full accordance with literature. 19 Alternatively, we investigated the use of the salicylic phosphorus derivative (2-chloro-4Hbenzo[d] [1,3,2]dioxaphosphinin-4-one) [method (b)] to derivatize the nor-nucleosides 6a,b. The method led to positive and promising results with the novelty that the products were derivatized as phosphonates of type 7b(A,B) and were obtained in 78% and 88% yields, respectively (Scheme 6).…”

“…1 The synthesis of anthracene DNA intercalators is a mature topic in organic chemistry; 2 nevertheless the presence of the anthracene moiety makes these structures significant, opening up variable strategies for the preparation of innovative derivatives, often characterized by biological activities, in the field of anticancer or antiviral compounds. 3 Some isoxazolidinyl polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were proposed as DNAintercalating antitumor agents 4 and modelling studies 5 on these structures confirm the degree of binding when a polycyclic aromatic residue is linked to an isoxazoline heterocyclic ring. Several examples can be found in the recent literature on antiviral and anticancer compounds.…”

“…Many bioactive natural compounds, including valdecoxib, leflunomide, and cloxacillin, in addition to prescription medications, contain the isoxazole core. [2] The addition of isoxazole could be responsible for its increased efficacy, less toxicity, and better pharmacokinetic characteristics. Since isoxazole compounds can interact with several protein targets with a broad range display of biological effects, including significant potential as antidepressants [3], antimicrobial agents [4], [5], immunosuppressants [6],…”

“…9-Anthraldehydes or anthracene-9-carbaldehydes ( 1 ) are important intermediates for dyes, sensors, and pharmaceutical ingredients (Figure ). In addition, some 9-anthraldehydes have been employed as building blocks for supramolecular assemblies and in the preparation of Schiff bases ( 2 – 3 ) as well as other functionalized ligands. , Moreover, 9-anthraldehyde oxime ( 4 ), prepared from 9-anthraldehyde, has served as a starting material for various functionalizations …”
