74‐5: Late-News Paper: High Dynamic Range Incell LCD with Excellent Performance

Abstract: A high dynamic range LCD constituted by a 6.46 WQHD full screen with a notch was proposed, which possess mini LED local dimming technology. The fabricated HDR LCD may achieve peak brightness above 1000nits and maximum contrast over 3,000,000, making it a comparable display to match the performance of OLED.

“…Id(θ) ∝ cos(θ), for a strong diffuser. To validate our simulations, we study a 6.4-inch 2880×1440 LCD system reported in [5,6]. The backlight consists of 24×12 local dimming zones and each zone has 6×6 mini-LEDs, which can be modulated independently.…”

“…The simplest method of halo effect reduction is to increase the number of local dimming zones. In Tianma's design, 1-mm LED pitch length and 6x6 LEDs per zone were adopted, corresponding to 288 zones [6]. Here, we keep the same LED distribution, but change the number of LEDs in each dimming zone.…”

“…µLED designs are widely classified into two types: chip‐based µLEDs (transferring packaged red‐green‐blue unit) and thin‐film µLEDs (having thickness less than 5 µm). A number of researches in the industry and at universities have developed the chip‐based µLED displays and biomedical devices . Although the assembly process for LED digital signage is well established based on the conventional LED technologies, chip‐based µLED display has a critical limitation in the mass production of low‐cost consumer TVs caused by handling millions of individual chip transfer .…”
