6d surface defects from massive type IIA

Abstract: We present a new BPS flow within minimal N = 1 supergravity in seven dimensions describing a warped AdS 3 background supported by a "dyonic" profile of the three-form. Furthermore, we discuss the holographic interpretation of the above solution in terms of a defect SCFT 2 inside the 6d (1, 0) theory dual to the AdS in the asymptotic region. Finally we provide the brane picture of the aforementioned defect CFT as D2-and wrapped D4-branes ending on a D6 -NS5 -D8 funnel in massive type IIA string theory.

“…When the defect QFT is a CFT, the explicit AdS dual geometry can be constructed in terms of the fully backreacted geometry [4,5], if the number of defect branes is sufficiently large. 1 2d defect CFTs breaking half of the supersymmetries of the ambient CFT have been studied in [6][7][8], and their corresponding AdS 3 gravity duals have been constructed 1 . The ambient CFT is either a 6d (1,0) CFT [6,7] or a 5d fixed point theory [8] 2 .…”

The ambient CFT is either a 6d (1,0) CFT [6,7] or a 5d fixed point theory [8] 2 . In the first case the 2d CFT lives in D2-D4 branes introduced in the D6-NS5-D8 brane intersections that underlie 6d (1,0) CFTs.…”

“…Recently, more attention has been given to populating the space of supergravity solutions with various superconformal algebras. Most efforts have focused on type IIB with partial results for solutions with small  = (4, 0) in [18,19], large  = (4, 0) in [35,36] and  = (2, 0) in [20][21][22][23] in [24]. Exceptions to this trend include a classification of purely NS  = (2, 2) solutions in [25], large  = (4, 0) in Mtheory [26] and massive IIA, [36] and small  = (4, 0) in massive IIA.…”

“…This type of solutions has originally been considered in the minimal N = 2 gauged supergravity in [12], see also [13] for similar solutions in the matter-coupled N = 2 gauged supergravity. Some of these solutions have been interpreted as surface defects within N = (1, 0) superconformal field theory (SCFT) in six dimensions in [14], see [15,16] for similar solutions in six dimensions and [17,18,19,20,21,22] for examples of another holographic description of conformal defects in terms of Janus solutions.…”
