“…This result for the grass-alone pastures is somewhat surprising considering that there was no legume in the sward and no N fertiliser added, but is in agreement with the results from the other sites in the humid tropics of coastal Queensland and at Carimagua (Lascano and Euclides 1996;Teitzel 1992). In the Itabela study soil N stocks were not depleted over the 8 year period (Tarré et al 2001) and it was estimated that soil C stocks to 100 cm increased by an annual mean of 0.66 Mg C ha -1 . Using 15 N enriched soil, B. humidicola and B. decumbens were found capable of obtaining significant inputs of N from plant-associated BNF, perhaps amounting to 30 to 40 kg N ha -1 year -1 (Boddey and Victoria 1986).…”
