49.1: New Concept for Improvement of White Color Balance in Hologram Back‐light Units

Abstract: We have improved a white color balance using multi‐grating period structure in the holographic backlight units that can be applicable to mobile LCD panel where several LEDs are placed at edge of guide plate as light sources. New H‐LGP is based on the characteristics of grating and its diffraction angle can be determined by specific grating period. With this idea, hologram backlight unit can realize not only lower weight and less power consumption but also higher light utilization by eliminating couple of prism… Show more

“…5 As shown in Fig. 1(b), the issue of this grating array is the generation of color offset, which is apparent, especially on two sides on the light guide [1]. To lessen the color offset, a grating array composed of five-period subwavelength grating was proposed in this study (Fig.…”

“…The applications of sub‐wavelength gratings in displays have been expanding in recent years. S. M. Lee designed a series of sinusoidal gratings for producing highly collimated white light to replace the diffuser and the prism sheet in a display . Ye and Park proposed a similar approach to improve the light illuminance and uniformity by optimizing the grating depths.…”

“…The calculations calculated road condition and uniformity of road that by using an optimized reflector, road brightness uniformity is improved [2][3][4]. We considered a set the several road lights, and then investigated the continuous road brightness uniformity conditions [2,[5][6][7].…”

“…To enhance efficiency, the pitch of the grating can be as low as 320 nm. In 2003, S. M. Lee designed a series of sub-wavelength gratings for producing highly collimated white light to replace the diffuser and the prism sheet in a display [3]. Ye and Park proposed a similar approach to improve the light illuminance and uniformity by optimizing the grating depths.…”
