3D FE modelling of plate shape during heavy plate rolling

Abstract: Using commercial finite element (FE) analysis software DEFORM-3D, a rigid plastic thermomechanical finite element model was developed to investigate inhomogeneous plastic deformations during heavy plate hot rolling. A single pass rolling process, a longitudinal rolling process and a broadside-longitudinal rolling process were simulated by this 3D FE model. The simulated results of the broadside-longitudinal rolling process were in good agreement with the actual rolled one. Basing on the simulation results, for… Show more

“…[35] Numerical models focused on this phenomenon, demand for a complete 3D modeling of the plate (or a quarter of the plate), including fillet, head, tail, and side crops which were developed and published by Trull et al and Ruan et al. [35,42] The accumulated equivalent plastic strain along the actual thickness of the plate, evaluated in the lateral center yz-plane of the heavy plate, is shown in Figure 8b. As the process continues, the profile shows a pronounced minimum at the core.…”

“…1 The relationship between the plate edge shapes and the rolling parameters was determined by analysing the simulation results. Then, mathematical prediction models for the uneven shapes were established by non-linear regressive analysis of the simulation results and modified using the lengths of the uneven shapes for higher accuracy.…”

“…Models belonging to the second category are proposed, e.g., in [13][14][15][16]. A FEM simulation was used in [14] to predict the camber and the lateral movement of a hot rolled strip with an elastic-plastic material model.…”
