“…Correspondingly, some beneficial bacterial taxa were decreased in SBP patients, such as Faecalibacterium prausnitzii , Methanobrevibacter smithii and Lactobacillus reuteri . The species F. prausnitzii has been demonstrated to have a lower abundance in patients with liver cirrhosis than in healthy people, and is associated with the regression of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) ( Wang et al., 2021 ; Chen et al., 2021 ). F. prausnitzii is the main butyrate-producing bacterium, and its short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) metabolites have an important anti-inflammatory effect on the intestine and liver ( Lee et al., 2020 ).…”

“…Another species of our great interest is Alistipes_senegalensis. Studies have confirmed that it is negatively correlated with the progression of chronic liver failure ( Wang et al, 2021 ) and it was also significantly reduced in the gut microorganisms of Crohn’s disease patients ( Hu et al, 2021 ), which may suggest that Alistipes_senegalensis plays a protective role in chronic kidney disease. These results suggested that finasteride may play a renal protective role by positively modulating beneficial intestinal microbiome.…”

“…From healthy to CHB, Bilophila decreased significantly, whereas an unclassified Lachnospiraceae taxa was enriched. Bilophila was found as negatively associated with ALT and AST, suggesting its relevance to attenuated liver inflammation (Wang et al, 2021 ). From CHB to LC, Oscillibacter, Oscillospiraceae_UCG-005 , and Prevotella were depleted.…”
