Association of C677T (rs1081133) and A1298C (rs1801131) Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Variants with Breast Cancer Susceptibility Among Asians: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract: This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to investigate the association between methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and A1298C polymorphisms with breast cancer (BC) in Asians. Systematic searches were conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus by May 2020. Interstudy heterogeneity was also assessed with a Q test, along with I 2 statistics. Random-effects models were applied to pooled crude ORs with corresponding 95% CIs for the genetic models. A total of 1097 identifie… Show more

“…[ 3 , 4 ] Although many molecular and epidemiological studies have explored the associations of folate metabolism related genetic polymorphisms with the risk of breast cancer, no consensus has been reached. [ 5 ] Moreover, because of genetic polymorphisms in the folate metabolism pathway, as well as nationality-related, regional, and racial differences, the results from different studies may vary, and even contradictory findings may be reported. Accordingly, such data should be comprehensively evaluated using a meta-analysis to verify the association between genetic polymorphisms in the folate metabolism pathway and breast cancer susceptibility.…”

“…The relationships between genetic polymorphisms in the folate metabolism pathway and the risk of breast cancer have attracted much attention in recent years, and have been evaluated by many studies [3,4] .
