“…As expected, the up-regulation of markers of SA (i.e., chitinase and1,3-B glucanase) and JA pathways (i e., metallocarboxypeptidase inhibitor and, Type I serine protease inhibitor; Supplementary Table 2A) were also observed. Overall, these data show that Trichoderma colonization of tomato plants positively affects several metabolic pathways, consistently with previous observations in tomato and other plant species (Alexandru et al, 2013; Mohapatra and Mittra, 2016; Ban et al, 2018). Since phenylpropanoids contribute to plant defenses (both direct and indirect) to insect herbivores, genes encoding for key-enzymes associated with phenylpropanoids biosynthesis were searched by using DEGs in a query to a KEGG database; in addition, a manual curation to enrich the aforementioned list was performed.…”

“…Fruit growth is a result of rapid cell division and cell elongation until the fruit gains its maximum size and starts ripening [41]. Cyclins are well known for regulating cell cycle [52].…”

“…Rapid cell elongation occurs during all plant growth stages [40]. The modification of the plant cell wall is highly required for the release of wall stress and a decrease in rigidity to allow cell elongation [12,41,42]. We identified 19 cell wall metabolism-related genes showing significant differential expression.…”

“…β-galactosidase in the cell wall was involved in germination and seedling growth of chickpea (Hernández-Nistal et al 2014). β-galactosidase gene DkGAL1 revealed that cell wall modification was related to fruit ripening in tomato (Ban et al 2018). β-galactosidase was also detected in fungi, and most of the research was on the characteristics of β-galactosidase (Park & Oh 2009;Isobe et al 2013).…”
