GC×GC/qMS analyses of Campomanesia guazumifolia (Cambess.) O. Berg essential oils and their antioxidant and antimicrobial activity

Abstract: The present study investigated the essential oil obtained from Campomanesia guazumifolia (Cambess.) O. Berg, an aromatic plant used in Brazilian folk medicine. The chemical composition was performed by GC×GC/qMS. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities were evaluated by DPPH and BCB and, MIC assays, respectively. Sixty-eight compounds were identified in the oil, where the major compounds were bicyclogermacrene (15%), globulol (5%) and spathulenol (5%). Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (29 compounds) and oxygena… Show more

“…O. Berg strongly inhibited the strains of S. aureus (MIC 15 ± 0.1 µg·mL −1 ), E. coli (MIC 25 ± 0.2 µg·mL −1 ) and C. albicans (MIC 5 ± 0.1 µg·mL −1 ). Sixty−eight compounds were identified in its oil, of which the main constituents were bicyclogermacrene (15%), globulol (5%) and spathulenol (5%) [ 40 ].…”

“…For the first time, antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of C. guazumifolia essential oil were reported and the main compounds identified by GCxGC/qMS were bicyclogermacrene (15%), globulol (5%) and spathulenol (5%). Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (29 compounds) and oxygenated sesquiterpenes (20 compounds) were the most representative class of terpenes (Santos et al, 2019). Another 2019 study investigated the infestation of fruit fly species infesting C. guazumifolia fruits (Almeida Research, Society and Development, v. 11, n. 1, e19111124639, 2022 (CC BY 4. xanthocarpa and C. adamantium obtained higher SPF rates (Catelan et al, 2019).…”

“…Extracts produced from guavira fruit have high in vitro antioxidant activity and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radicalscavenging activity ranging from 52-92.2% (Coutinho et al, 2008). Moreover, studies suggest that essential oils extracted from guavira fruit have antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans, and moderate activity against Escherichia coli (Coutinho et al, 2009;dos Santos et al, 2019). Lohmann et al (2021) observed that the dietary inclusion of 219 mg/kg of HEGP resulted in better feed conversion rate for broilers in the finishing phase.…”
