Overground endoscopy in 311 Thoroughbred racehorses: findings and correlation to resting laryngeal function

“…To allow comparison between studies and maximise sample size, data from horses with a grade of 3 on a 5‐point scale were merged with grade 2 on the 4‐point consensus scale . All studies, with the exception of and , made use of a high‐speed treadmill for dynamic evaluation of the airway. Horses were allowed to train on the treadmill prior to testing.…”

“…This retrospective study investigated overground endoscopy (OGE) findings at rest compared with those during exercise, using an endoscope positioned at the level of the guttural pouch ostia to make sure that the larynx components were visible, and graded video recordings. 9 Trainers completed a questionnaire on the background of the horses.…”

“…Intermittent dorsal displacement of the soft palate (IDDSP) is a multifactorial disease occurring in 10-20% of racehorses (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7) and 28% of competing draft horses (8). Females and young horses (2-4 years old) have been reported to be more affected than male and older horses (9).…”
