Research Article MiR-200c inhibits metastasis of breast tumor via the downregulation of Foxf2.

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The forkhead box F2 (Foxf2) gene suppresses epithelial-mesenchymal transition via the modulation of transcription of zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1 (Zeb1) and epithelial (E)-cadherin, thereby inhibiting tumor metastasis. Additionally, the specific binding of microRNA (miR)-200c to Foxf2 mRNA impedes metastatic pulmonary cancer. However, the role of miR-200c in breast cancer is still unknown. Therefore, in this study, miR-200c mimics were transfected into the highly metastatic breast cancer cell… Show more

“…22 It has been shown that the expression of miRNA is changed in cancer via several mechanisms such as miRNA gene deletion or amplification. 25 Zhang et al 26 reported that miR-200c suppressed the breast cancer cell metastasis via downregulation of forkhead box F2 expression. Individual miRNAs can regulate multiple mRNAs, and several distinct miRNAs can suppress a single mRNA.…”

“…In lung cancer (except for non-small cell lung cancer 20,21 ) and RMS in mice 35 , FOXF2 mainly shows a promotive effect. In HCC 23 and breast cancer 18,19 , the effect of FOXF2 can be to inhibit and to promote. The roles of FOXF2 in tumours are summarized in Fig.…”

“…Multiple studies have shown that FOXF2 can have roles in breast cancer 18,19 , lung cancer [20][21][22] , hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) [23][24][25] , colorectal cancer (CRC) [26][27][28][29] , prostate cancer (PC) [30][31][32] , gastric cancer (GC) 33 , ovarian cancer (OC) 34 , rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) in mice 35 and other tumours (Table 1). However, FOXF2 can both promote and inhibit proliferation, invasion and metastasis in tumours, depending on the type or subtype of the tumour.…”

“…miRNAs are a class of small noncoding RNAs with 18-25 nucleotides, which play as promising targets for diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics of breast cancer [12]. Previous works have demonstrated that miR-200b and miR-200c could serve as important tumor suppressor by inhibiting cell proliferation, migration and invasion in breast cancer [13][14][15][16][17]. More importantly, the complementary sites between cir-cDENND4C and miR-200b or miR-200c predicted by bioinformatics analysis using starBase stimulated us to hypothesize that miR-200b and miR-200c might be required for circDENND4C-mediated progression of breast cancer.…”
