Knockdown of circDENND4C inhibits glycolysis, migration and invasion by up-regulating miR-200b/c in breast cancer under hypoxia

Abstract: Background: Hypoxia is a key feature of breast cancer, which affects cancer development, metastasis and metabolism. Previous studies suggested that circular RNAs (circRNAs) could participate in cancer progression and hypoxia regulation. This study aimed to investigate the role of circRNA differentially expressed in normal cells and neoplasia domain containing 4C (circDENND4C) in breast cancer progression under hypoxia. Methods: Forty-three patients with breast cancer were involved in this study. Breast cancer … Show more

“…10 In addition, circDENND4C accelerated glycolysis, migration, and invasion of breast cancer cells under hypoxia by competitively sponging miR-200b/200c. 11 Growing evidence suggests that circRNA promotes various biological behaviors in the development of NSCLC, including proliferation, 12 invasion, 13 migration, 13 and chemoresistance. 14 Therefore, studying the important role of circRNA in tumorigenesis may be effective for identifying novel molecular targets to help inhibit the development of NSCLC.…”

“…Hypoxia-induced overexpression of circDENND2A promotes the migration and invasion of glioma cells by sponging miR-625-5p [95]. In addition, more HRCs, including circRNA_403658, cir-cDENND4C, and circRNA_0000977, have been identified to participate in cancer progression by sponging corresponding miRNAs [29,96,97]. Although limited research has uncovered the role of HRCs, promising functions of circRNAs in human cancers have been preliminarily established, and we believe that HRCs will be the next hotspot in the research field of hypoxia-induced cancer progression.…”

“…Recent studies have found that circRNAs are involved in the development and progression of various cancers [22][23][24], such as gastric cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer. Current evidence suggests that circRNAs can target miRNAs, often referred to as "miRNA sponges, " to reduce the levels of miRNAs and release their targeted inhibition of mRNAs, thereby regulating the expression of protein-coding genes [25][26][27]. These studies have found that circRNAs may play a key role in the development and progression of cancers.…”
