Correlation between polymorphism of vitamin D receptor TaqI and susceptibility to colorectal cancer

Abstract: The meta-analysis aimed to investigate the correlation between the polymorphism of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) TaqI and susceptibility of colorectal cancer.Studies were extracted from the electronic databases of PubMed and Embase. The balance of heredity was estimated by the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium test, and heterogeneity was assessed by Cochran Q statistics and I2 test. Four assessed models, namely additive (t vs T), dominant (Tt + tt vs TT), recessive (tt vs Tt + TT), and codominant (Tt vs TT and tt vs T… Show more

“…There are several previous meta‐analyses on the role of rs731236 on CRC risk. Most of the previous meta‐analyses found no significant association between the risk of CRC and rs731236. While Serrano et al in their meta‐analysis found significant results based on analyzing both of colorectal cancer and adenoma.…”

“…The literature has shown correlations of these polymorphisms with several pathologies, such as osteoporosis, risk of fractures, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, multiple sclerosis, susceptibility to tuberculosis, and cancer [ 12 , 24 , 36 42 ]. The present study analyzed the presence of specific pathologies with the TaqI polymorphism frequency.…”

“…GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotypes increased risk of CRC in Caucasian populations [ 103 , 104 , 105 ]. Polymorphisms in vitamin D receptor ( VDR ) gene, in combination with dietary fat or calcium, seem to also modulate CRC risk, but controversial results have been found [ 106 , 107 , 108 , 109 ]. The common Thr1482Ile polymorphism in the transient receptor potential melastatin 7 ( TRPM7 ), a ubiquitously expressed constitutive ion channel with higher affinity for Mg2+ than for Ca2+, was associated with an elevated risk of both adenomatous and hyperplastic polyps.…”
