Gastric emptying after artificial ulceration in rats: differences due to the site of the ulcer and the effects of prokinetic drugs

Abstract: Background This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the position of an acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer and the effects of prokinetic drugs on gastric emptying. Materials and Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this study. Acetic acid ulcers were induced either in the region between the fundus and pylorus on the anterior wall of the stomach or in the glandular region on the greater curvature of the stomach to determine whether there were regional differences in the effect of the ulcers. Gastric e… Show more

“…60 An estimated 30%-50% of patients with FD have motor disorders, such as delayed GE and impaired gastric accommodation after a meal. 61 Although GE is delayed by gastric ulcers and diabetic mellitus, 62,63 it is important to ameliorate abnormal stress-induced GE in patients with FD.…”

“…Such ulcerative lesions can be acute or chronic and most often appear in any portion of the gastrointestinal tract exposed to the aggressive action of peptic acid. [3][4][5] Several drugs have been used in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, with gastric antisecretory agents such as H2-type histaminergic receptor antagonists 6 being of great importance protons such as omeprazole and lansoprazole. 7 Maytenus ilicifolia belongs to the Celastraceae family, contains 98 genus and approximately 1264 species found mainly in tropical regions (Figure 1).…”
