Expression and prognostic significance of MYL9 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: ObjectiveMyosin light chain 9 (MYL9) is necessary for cytoskeletal dynamics and experimental metastasis, but its expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has not been addressed. We investigated the expression pattern and clinical significance of MYL9 in patients with ESCC.MethodsWe examined MYL9 expression using quantitative real-time PCR and western blotting in NE1 immortalized esophageal epithelial cells, ESCC cell lines, and paired ESCC tissues. MYL9 protein in 136 primary ESCC tissues and ot… Show more

“…CSRP1 encodes a member of the cysteine-rich protein (CSRP) family, which may serve as an important biomarker of malignancy. CSRP1 is inactivated in hepatocellular carcinoma [36] , whereas MYL9 , which encodes myosin light chain 9, shows prognostic significance in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma [37] . The third gene GUCA2B encodes guanylate cyclase activator 2B (also known as uroguanylin).…”

“…Over-expression of some galectins such as gal1 as an anti-inflammatory mediator was previously reported in gastric ulcer [46]. There were also alterations in Myl9 levels which is mainly a protein, enhancing tumor progression [47]. Increased Myl9 and Lgals7 levels might demonstrate a tendency in the ulcer areas to progress to cancerous lesions.…”

“…MYLK was implicated in mediation of transcellular intravasation of breast cancer cells 41 , influencing global gene regulation in cancer 42 . High level of MYL9 expression was observed in injury, aging 43 and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma 44 . TPM1 overexpression was found in NSCLC and neuroblastoma 45 and implicated in modulation of focal adhesion and cell migration behavior 46,47 .…”
