Factors and Mechanisms Affecting Seasonal Changes in the Prevalence of Microbiological Indicators of Water Quality and Nutrient Concentrations in Waters of the Białka River Catchment, Southern Poland

Abstract: This 3-year study was aimed to understand the factors and mechanisms that cause the temporal changes in the concentration of microbiological indicators of water quality and nutrient concentration in selected sites of the Białka river catchment (southern Poland) situated in direct vicinity of the largest ski station in the region. The analysis comprised 35 sampling campaigns conducted in five sites. Water temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity were measured during sampling, laboratory analyses included de… Show more

“…These tourism-generated negative effects may occur seasonally. Seasonal changes induced by anthropogenic factors were also observed earlier using physico-chemical variables (Barakat et al, 2016;Vega et al, 1998), microbiological indicators (Lenart-Boron et al, 2016) and physicochemical parameters of water and bacterial water quality indicators (Bojarczuk et al, 2018). Therefore, our aim was to develop a fast and reliable SPE-SFC-MS/MS method suitable for multi-residue analysis of drugs in environmental samples.…”

“…Water temperature (T), electrolytic conductivity (EC 25°C ), pH, and water level (H) were measured onsite (Lenart-Boroń et al 2016c). Water samples were collected each month to 1000 ml sterile polypropylene bottles for the assessment of chemical composition and into 500 ml polyethylene bottles for microbiological analyses.…”

“…In microbiological analyses, bacterial indicators of water quality were enumerated with membrane filtration (total and thermotolerant coliforms and Escherichia coli) and serial dilution methods (mesophilic and psychrophilic bacteria), as described by Lenart-Boroń et al 2016c.…”

“…However, the relationship between water physicochemical properties is also highly dependent on the seasonality and geographical location of the water sources [92], and the complexity of the correlation between these factors and the prevalence of pathogenic microorganisms in water has been inadequately investigated in the Southeastern U.S.…”
