In-vivo validation of a new clinical tool to quantify three-dimensional myocardial strain using ultrasound

Abstract: Three-dimensional (3D) strain analysis based on real-time 3-D echocardiography (RT3DE) has emerged as a novel technique to quantify regional myocardial function. The goal of this study was to evaluate accuracy of a novel model-based 3D tracking tool (eSie Volume Mechanics, Siemens Ultrasound, Mountain View, CA, USA) using sonomicrometry as an independent measure of cardiac deformation. Thirteen sheep were instrumented with microcrystals sutured to the epi- and endocardium of the inferolateral left ventricular … Show more

“…The impact of Dobutamine and Verapamil on the rest of the mechanic and hemodynamic parameters was comparable. In line with previous reproducibility studies [39][40][41][42], we showed that radial strain is a poorly reproducible and inaccurate measurement. In this study we did not show the interand intra-observer reproducibility because it was already assessed in a previous work from our group based on the same cohort [43].…”

“…Generally, while LS 2DSTE seems to perform well across studies, recent reports describe suboptimal correlation and larger bias for CS and RS by 2DSTE 56 . For 3DSTE, LS and CS are accurate compared to sonomicrometry, while RS has been shown to be less reliable 59 . To date, FT has not been tested in vivo .…”

“…3D strain analysis was done offline by a single viewer blinded to the clinical, laboratory, and conventional echocardiography study interpretation. All the 3D datasets were processed using a software package for automated volumetric strain analysis -EchobuildR 3D Volume Analysis prototype software, v3.0 2019, SMS [14][15][16]. The software generated 3D endocardial LV, RV, LA, and RA volumes (Fig.…”
