Low Expression of CDK5 and p27 Are Associated with Poor Prognosis in Patients with Gastric Cancer

Abstract: Several previous studies have demonstrated that CDK5 or p27 expression in gastric cancer are associated with overall survival. We have previously reported that tumor suppressive function of CDK5 is related to p27. The aim of this study was to investigate correlation between the clinicopathological parameters and overall survival with different CDK5/p27 expression statuses in 244 gastric cancer patients using immunohistochemistry. Low CDK5 expression was detected in 93 cases (38.11%) and low p27 in 157 cases (6… Show more

“…In our present study, we also detected the expression pattern of p27 protein in DTCs and adjacent non-cancerous tissues using IHC. Our results showed that p27 protein was down-regulated in ESAC, ESCC, GC and CRC, which are consistent with preceding researches [ 14 , 25 , 49 , 75 ]. Then we further investigated the diagnostic ability of p27 protein in DTCs, and the results suggested that p27 protein could differentiate patients with DTCs from normal subjects to a degree.…”

“…The follow-up times ranged from 29 to 240 months, the cut-off values ranged from 0.03 to 0.75, and the sample sizes ranged from 23 to 1062. Among the 62 studies, 54 studies [ 8 , 10 – 62 ] followed survival, and 37 studies [ 8 , 13 , 15 20 , 24 , 28 30 , 36 , 39 , 40 , 44 47 , 49 51 , 54 , 55 , 57 – 61 , 63 – 70 ] investigated the relationships of p27 protein expression with lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and pathology grading. Among the 54 survival-related studies, 17 articles provided HRs and 95% CIs directly, while 33 articles only provided Kaplan–Meier survival curves.…”

“…Furthermore, the association between high CDK5 expression and poor prognosis has showed in other human malignancies, such as pancreatic cancer [12], lung cancer [13], thyroid carcinoma [14]. While, Sun Y et al reported that lower expression of CDK5 associated with poorer prognosis in gastric cancer [15]. Yet, there is no research about CDK5’s function which focusing on ccRCC patients.…”

“…Treatment with CRE also inhibited ertain gene expression profiles, such as cell cycle-associated genes CDK1 (cyclindependent kinase 1), WEE1 (WEE1 G 2 checkpoint kinase), and CDC25A (cell division cycle associated 5). There are literature reports showing poor prognosis for gastric cancer patients with overexpressed carboxypeptidase A4 (CPA4), a zinc-containing exopeptidase (49). In this study, elevated CPA4 expression was detected in more than 50% of primary gastric cancer cases but it was weak or absent from the normal mucosa.…”
