To determine the knowledge regarding hepatitis B virus (HBV) mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) and its prevention and treatment among healthcare workers (HCWs) in Guangdong Province, China, an HBV endemic area. An HBV knowledge questionnaire was administered to 900 HCWs from the 3rd Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University and 2 rural hospitals in Guangdong Province. The 27 items in the questionnaire fell into 3 sections: HBV MTCT general knowledge, respondents' practices of preventing HBV MTCT and awareness of the resources of preventing HBV MTCT. The data collected were coded and analysed using SPSS software version 20. In total, 503 of 900 HCWs responded to the survey (response rate: 55.9%). Eighty-four individuals responded correctly to all of the knowledge questions: 58 were doctors, and 26 were nurses (P < .05). Doctors more often performed practices than nurses (t = 3.591, P < .01). Participants from the infectious disease department demonstrated a significantly higher proportion of correct answers and resource utilization than other specialties (χ = 14.052, 7.998, P < .01). In terms of the average knowledge score, t test or ANOVA showed that there were significant differences between the specialty groups (t = 3.110, P < .01), hospital level groups (t = 2.337, P < .05) and age groups (F = 3.020, P < .05). Respondents' initiative increased with hospital level and age (t = 2.993, 7.493, P < .01). A considerable percentage of HCWs has misconceptions about HBV MTCT. Healthcare workers, in particular nurses, those working in noninfectious disease departments or township hospitals and younger medical staff, lack systematic and comprehensive knowledge about HBV MTCT and are in urgent need of HBV-related training.

Introduction/Objective. More than 300 million people around the world are infected with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). It is transmitted through blood, blood derivatives, sexually, and vertically, and healthcare workers, due to the nature of their work, represent a vulnerable group. The aim of this research is to: determine the coverage of vaccination against HBV infection of health workers working in a tertiary health institution-the Clinical Centre (CC) of Vojvodina, the level of protection by determining anti HBs antibodies, the exposure degree, the degree of examinee's compliance with implemented protection measures in the work place, and the level of knowledge about post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) measures. Methods. The research was conducted as a descriptive analytical cross section study, in which a Questionnaire on protection of health workers from blood-borne diseases (BBD) was used as an instrument for research, and blood sampling to determination HBs antibody titer. The sample covered one hundred health care workers. Results. The research showed a large coverage of vaccination against HBV infection (97%). Aside from continuous seroprophylaxis, 7% of examinees did not have protective anti HBs antibodies. Health workers' level of exposure to HBV infection incidence is 90%. Protection measures in the work place are applied by 89% examinees, whereas 86% is familiar with the PEP measures. Conclusion. The research showed a large coverage of health workers using specific HBV infection protection, insufficiently implemented protection, high exposure to HBV infection incidence, incomplete compliance with safety measures and insufficient knowledge of PEP measures.

Spatial Heterogeneity of the Carbon Emission Effect Resulting from Urban Expansion among Three Coastal Agglomerations in China

Land-use change, particularly urban expansion, can greatly affect the carbon balance, both from the aspects of terrestrial ecosystems and anthropogenic carbon emissions. Coastal China is a typical region of rapid urban expansion, and obvious spatial heterogeneity exists from the north to south. However, the different urban change characteristics and the effect on carbon balance remain undetermined. By unifying the spatial-temporal resolution of carbon source and sink data, we effectively compared the carbon budgets of three coastal urban agglomerations in China. The results show that all of the three urban agglomerations have undergone an obvious urban expansion process, with the built-up area increasing from 1.03 × 104 km2 in 2000 to 3.06 × 104 km2 in 2013. For Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH), the built-up area gradually expanded. The built-up area in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) gradually changed before 2007 but rapidly grew thereafter. The built-up expansion of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) passed through three growing stages and showed the largest mean patch size. Carbon emission spatial patterns in the three urban agglomerations are consistent with their economic development, from which the net ecosystem production (NEP) spatial patterns are very different. Compared to carbon emissions, NEP has a carbon sink effect and can absorb some carbon emissions, but the amounts were all much lower than the carbon emissions in the three urban agglomerations. The carbon sink effect in the Yangtze River Delta is the most obvious, with the Pearl River Delta following, and the lowest effect is in Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei. Finally, a scientific basis for policy-making is provided for viable CO2 emission mitigation policies.
