Etoposide Incorporated into Camel Milk Phospholipids Liposomes Shows Increased Activity against Fibrosarcoma in a Mouse Model

Abstract: Phospholipids were isolated from camel milk and identified by using high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Anticancer drug etoposide (ETP) was entrapped in liposomes, prepared from camel milk phospholipids, to determine its activity against fibrosarcoma in a murine model. Fibrosarcoma was induced in mice by injecting benzopyrene (BAP) and tumor-bearing mice were treated with various formulations of etoposide, including etoposide entrapped camel milk phospholipi… Show more

“…27 The characterization of the phospholipids isolated from camel milk predominantly showed the presence of phosphatidylcoline, phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylinositol, and lysophosphatidylcholine. 28 Recently we showed that etoposide (ETP) encapsulated into camel milk phospholipids (CML)-Lip possesses greater activity against fibrosarcoma in a mouse model. 28 Cisplatin showed increased antitumor efficacy in PE-containing Lip.…”

“…Liposomes prepared from these phospholipids were used as drug delivery systems for various anticancer drugs, and have shown promising anticancer activity in the murine/mouse model. Etoposide entrapped in camel milk phospholipid liposomes has showed greater anticancer activity against fibrosarcoma in a murine model compared to free etoposide or etoposide entrapped in 1,2-Dipalmitoyl-snglycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) liposomes [132]. Combination of doxorubicin (Dox) and etoposide (ETP) loaded into camel milk phospholipids liposomes (CML-Lip) is found also to increase survival and to reduce tumor growth in the mice than the combination of Dox and ETP in DPPC-Lip [133].…”
