“…Erythematous‐squamous lesions were the most prevalent in this study (45.26%), possibly because they are almost always found in individuals with inflammatory diseases related to HTLV, and such group of diseases was the most frequent (64.2%). In the study by García‐Huidobro et al ., in Chile, the group of cutaneous manifestations most frequent in patients with HTLV‐1 were noninfectious inflammatory diseases (76%), and xerosis/ichthyosis was the most frequent inflammatory manifestation found in 40% of the cases, followed by seborrheic dermatitis and eczema, both with 28% prevalence, likewise in the study by Okajima et al . and Dantas et al ., both performed in Brazil, where xerosis/ichthyosis was the most frequent dermatological finding (49% and 44.13%, respectively), followed by seborrheic dermatitis (27% and 24%, respectively).…”

“…Skin lesions are common in individuals infected with HTLV‐1, both in asymptomatic and in those who have developed associated disease and may represent a warning sign for the diagnosis of infection . In a study carried out in Chile, it was found that HTLV‐1 positive blood donors had more dermatological alterations than the control group, which did not carry the virus, with a prevalence of 96% in the cases . In the other two investigations carried out in Brazil, high rates of dermatological diseases in HTLV‐1 positive individuals have also been reported .…”
