The Protective Effects of the Supercritical-Carbon Dioxide Fluid Extract ofChrysanthemum indicumagainst Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Lung Injury in Mice via Modulating Toll-Like Receptor 4 Signaling Pathway

Abstract: The supercritical-carbon dioxide fluid extract of Chrysanthemum indicum Linné. (CFE) has been demonstrated to be effective in suppressing inflammation. The aim of this study is to investigate the preventive action and underlying mechanisms of CFE on acute lung injury (ALI) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mice. ALI was induced by intratracheal instillation of LPS into lung, and dexamethasone was used as a positive control. Results revealed that pretreatment with CFE abated LPS-induced lung histopathologi… Show more

“…We did not observe any significant decrease in the levels of ALU247; however DNA integrity decreased significantly after surgery which indicates more of apoptotic DNA in circulation. The higher levels of ALU115 observed in patients after surgery might be due to the increase in apoptosis associated with wound healing (Greenhalgh 1998; Wu and Chen 2014). The persistence of longer fragments of DNA after excision of tumor indicates that its presence in circulation might be associated with some other body mechanism.…”

“…Pongjit et al reported that CI SCFE has a strong ability to protect against the chemotherapy-induced renal cell damage [17]. In addition, our previous study demonstrated that CI SCFE has a protective effect against lipopolysaccharide-induced lung injury and UV-induced skin injury [18,19]. However, the effective antitumor activity of CI SCFE combined with BLM in vivo remains unclear.…”

“…Thus, it can be referred as a potential therapeutic drug for ALI. Its mechanisms were at least partially associated with the modulations of TLR4 signaling pathways 55 . The oral intake of peptide mixture and the aqueous extract of Chrysanthemum Gui et al, 2014 morifolium had synergistic antimelanogenic and antioxidative effects in UV-irradiated mice 56 .…”
