Protein tyrosine phosphatase controls breast cancer invasion through the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9

Abstract: The expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) produced by cancer cells has been associated with the high potential of metastasis in several human carcinomas, including breast cancer. Several pieces of evidence demonstrate that protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTP) have functions that promote cell migration and metastasis in breast cancer. We analyzed whether PTP inhibitor might control breast cancer invasion through MMP expression. Herein, we investigate the effect of 4-hydroxy-3,3-dimethyl-2H benzo[g]indol… Show more

“…MMPs are members of the metzincin superfamily which comprises zinc-and calciumdependent enzymes comprising more than 24 subtypes (118). It is widely accepted that MMPs mediate degradation and modify most components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and the basal membrane (BM), which is critical for cancer invasion and metastasis (119)(120)(121). As one of the most important MMP genes, the MMP-13 gene, also known as collagenase-3, is located in chromosome 11q22, spanning approximately 12.5 kb and consists of ten exons and nine introns (122).…”
