“…The QoL summary score in the study population showed a positive association between NS at T0 and T1, with a significant reduction according to worsening of the NS. Data of the present study corroborate with recent literature, which has shown lower QoL scores among cancer patients presenting weight loss or malnutrition . Malnutrition is now considered an independent factor for the deterioration of QoL, and a recent systematic review concluded that poor NS is significantly associated with the QoL reduction in cancer patients, independently of the tumour site …”

“…The gastrointestinal toxicities such as nausea and diarrhoea were the most common, corroborating with other studies that report an elevated incidence of toxicity in gynaecologic tumours, in addition to the association between severity and decline of the NS . The gastrointestinal symptoms can negatively impact the NS reducing of nutrient intake and accelerating muscular degradation, with worsened physical capacity and consequent QoL …”

“…Eating difficulties, pain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, and appetite loss were clinically relevant and statistically significant worse symptoms experienced among those with a post-operative weight loss [7] . Our results are in line with studies which report that approximately 3 months after esophagectomy, patients report worse functional aspects of QOL (physical, social, role and cognitive function) and more problems with fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, appetite loss, diarrhea, dry mouth and loss of taste than before treatment [5][6][7][8][9] . With the goal of improving postoperative outcomes, there has been a trend towards the increased use of trimodality therapy (induction chemotherapy and radiation therapy, followed by surgery) and minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) for esophageal resection; although their advantages and cost effectiveness remains debatable [10,11] .…”

“…7 Other factors such as stage of cancer at diagnosis, cancer cachexia, treatment associated Nutrition Impact Symptoms (NIS) and poor nutritional status have a negative impact on the functional status of cancer patients. [8][9] Recent data of the Population Based Cancer Registries (PBCRs), India, on cancer prevalence reported lung, mouth, oesophagus and stomach in men and; breast and cervix in women as the leading cancer sites. 10 According to the National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP) report 2012-14 on the tobacco related cancers, lung cancer followed by cancers of the oesophagus and mouth were leading sites in both the genders across the country.…”
