“…After injection with LAs, muscles initially show degeneration and inflammation followed by regeneration with increased diameters of muscle fibers. 24 Satellite cells play a key role in this process. In this study, we investigated how one specific LA, lidocaine, affects satellite cells under laboratory conditions.…”

“…When using local anesthetics for treatment of strabismus, the tension of the EOMs sometimes increases after a longterm recovery period. 24 We propose that after the initial damage, EOMs experience a delay in the repair of these muscles due to a maintenance or even enlargement of satellite cell pools. The subsequent repair may eventually form muscle fibers of increased strength to provide the necessary forces required for appropriate eye alignment.…”

A cat model of acute extraocular muscle injury can be established by rectus clamping. Different clamping strengths can make different degrees of muscle injury. This model may help the future study in the acute extraocular muscle injury.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
