Effect of the addition of IGF-I and vitamin E to stored boar semen

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the addition of IGF-I to pig insemination doses stored at 158C, in conjunction with the addition of different amounts of vitamin E (a-tocopherol). Semen samples (n 5 12) from four boars were treated by the addition of different concentrations of vitamin E, ranging up to 400 mg/ml. “…Da mesma forma, Althouse et al (1998) superior a 75% nas amostras preservadas entre 12 e 17 °C, durante 48 horas de refrigeração, e motilidade inferior a 70% nas amostras mantidas entre 8 e 10 °C, sugerindo que a temperatura crítica para resfriamento do sêmen suíno encontra-se a abaixo de 12 °C. Esses resultados corroboram com Mendez et al (2013), que também não observaram nenhum efeito sobre o vigor dos espermatozoides, ao utilizar α-Tocoferol no sêmen refrigerado a 15 °C ao longo de 72 horas, e também com Satorre et al (2012) que observaram que não houve diferença significativa (p>0,05) para quantidade de espermatozoides com membrana íntegra de amostras de sêmen congelados em diluidor acrescido ou não de α-Tocoferol, o que é contraditório uma vez que se esperava uma redução do estresse oxidativo resultando na melhor preservação de membranas com o uso dessa substância. Talvez haja necessidade de se testar outras concentrações de α-Tocoferol assim como avaliar maiores tempos de incubação do sêmen nos diluidores com antioxidante.…”
