2,6-Bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroso-3,5-diphenylpiperidin-4-one

Abstract: The piperidone ring of the title compound, C31H28N2O4, adopts a twist boat conformation. The crystal packing is characterized by a layered arrangement of molecules held together by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, in which each of the nitroso and carbonyl O atoms participate. No significant aryl–aryl interactions are observed.

“…1) adopts a twist-boat conformation with atoms C2 and C5 deviating by 0.627 1and 0.560 (1) Å , respectively, from the least-squares plane defined by the other atoms (N1, C3, C4 and C6). These values are slightly higher than those observed in the 4-methoxy analogue of (I) (Natarajan et al, 2005) viz. 0.592 (2) and 0.492 (2) Å .…”

“…This paper deals with the structure of the title compound, (I), a cyano-piperidinone derivative with an ethyl acetate solvent molecule incorporated in the crystal structure. Recently, in our laboratory, we have elucidated the crystal structures of a few nitrosopiperidinone derivatives with varying substituents in the phenyl rings at the 2,6-positions of the nitroso-piperidinone ring and with unsubstituted phenyl rings at the 3,5-positions, namely the 4-methoxy (PIP1; Natarajan et al, 2005), 2-methyl (PIP2; Suresh et al, 2005a), 2-methoxy (PIP3; Suresh et al, 2005b) and 2-chloro (PIP4; Suresh et al, 2005) analogues of the title compound. “…In this context, we have undertaken single-crystal X-ray investigations of a series of piperidinone derivatives and this paper deals with a precise description of the title compound, (I), namely, 2,6-bis(2-methylphenyl)-1-nitroso-3,5-diphenylpiperidin-4-one (PIP3). Recently, we have elucidated the crystal structures of 2,6-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroso-3,5diphenylpiperidin-4-one (PIP1; Natarajan et al, 2005) and 2,6bis(2-methylphenyl)-1-nitroso-3,5-diphenylpiperidin-4-one (PIP2; Suresh et al, 2005).…”
