18  Supramolecular coordination chemistry

Abstract: Due to the rapid expansion of the literature in this area it is no longer possible to cover the 'supramolecular photochemistry' of covalently-linked multi-chromophore systems. Instead the coverage this year concentrates on the self-assembly and hostguest chemistry of metal complexes.

“…Electronic absorption spectra of the mononuclear complexes 2 shown similar number of bands in higher frequency region, for instance a medium intensity band in the region 260-275 nm, a high intensity band in the region 318-322 nm and a broad band in the region 356-418 nm. The medium intensity bands in UV region is assigned to p-p*, a high intensity band in UV region is assigned to inter and intra-ligand p-p*/np* transitions [62,63], while the low energy absorption band in the visible region is assigned to metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) (t 2g -p*).…”

“…During the last few decades there has been great interest in the chemistry of transition metals associated with polydentate ligands with sp 2 -hybridized nitrogen atoms, for instance, polypyrazolylborates [1,2] and polypyridines [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. In many cases the charge transfer properties of these compounds justify this interest.…”

“…Because of the highly crystalline nature of PET fiber and its high glass‐transition temperature ( T g ), the diffusion of organic substances into the fibers can be difficult and modification of PET fibers has in the main been carried out during synthesis via the incorporation of comonomers, by the adjustment of molecular weight, and by variations in spinning conditions. These routes have been used to bring about significant changes in the dyeing properties,3 shrinkage,4 and pilling performance4, 5 of commercial PET fibers. However, PET can be modified using finishing treatments, particularly to change the surface; for example, fluorocarbon residues6 are incorporated to give rise to enhanced oil repellency, polyether residues are added to increase wettability, and surface modification is made for use in composites7 where adhesion properties are of great importance.…”

“…An important synthetic strategy currently employed metalsupramolecular chemistry approach possess a wide range of applications in the preparation of new compounds, which are driven by metal-ligand bonding and modulated through self-assembly from different components via noncovalent bonds such as hydrogen bonds, p-stacking or multiple intermolecular interactions [10]. As strong metal ion chelators, the hydroxamic acid metal complexes chemistry has principally focused on hydroxamic acid groups being coordinated rather than free.…”
