150 KGate general-purpose high-coding-gain TCM VLSIs for high-speed multi-level QAM systems

Abstract: Multi-level Trellis coded OAM VLSIs were designed and developed. These VLSIs realize a coding ain of 7.9dB with SPORT-256QAM.The k S I s contain an encoder, map r and decoder for Trellis coded 16, 32, 64, E 8 and 256QAM utilizing general mapping. The VLSIs also function as a phase ambiguity re'ection circuit Usin small-size and low-power path-memory, 15Ozgates is achifved usin two $hips with &eThe VLSIs achieve a maximum data throughput rate of l7Mbit/s (guaranteed), 30Mbit/s (t ical) and dissipate only 1W at a… Show more

“…By Ref. [16,17], coding gain of 7.9 dB (asymptotic) and 4.7 dB (BER=104 ) can be achieved with Ungerboeck's 64 states, rate 2/3 when symbol rate is increased by 8/7 without doubling the number of symbols as 5 12-QAM. …”
