14,15-Epoxyeicosatrienoic Acid Suppresses Cigarette Smoke Extract-Induced Apoptosis in Lung Epithelial Cells by Inhibiting Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress

Abstract: Background/Aims: Epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs), a type of lipid mediators produced by cytochrome P450 epoxygenases, exert anti-inflammatory, angiogenic, anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic effects. However, the role of EETs in cigarette smoke-induced lung injury and the underlying mechanisms are not fully known. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of CYP2J2-EETs on cigarette smoke extracts (CSE)-induced apoptosis in human bronchial epithelial cell line (Beas-2B) and the possible mechanisms involv… Show more

“…S6K1 and S6 have been considered to regulate apoptosis, the cell cycle and metabolism [32]. 4EBP1 plays an important role in protein synthesis, cell growth and cell proliferation [33]. Thus, the effect of curcumin inhibiting heat-induced apoptosis may be mediated by these molecules.…”

“…The NLRP3 inflammasome is a pivotal signaling platform that is activated by a variety of signals, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) [6]. Activation of NLRP3 inflammasome can release cytokines, growth factors, extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and metalloproteases, thus causing alveolar injury, abnormal lung repair and pulmonary fibrosis [7]. As an innate proteolytic complex, the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome is recently known to play a critical role in the pathogenesis of ventilator-induced lung injury, thus the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome should be efficiently controlled.…”

“…Increasing attention has been given to ER stress for the roles it plays in many diseases, including diabetes [87], cardiovascular diseases [88], cancer [89], inflammation [90] and neurodegeneration [91]. IRE1α is the most sensitive UPR branch in mammalian cells upon ER stress.…”
