Ulcers or wounds can be classified as acute or chronic. Their treatment involves overall assessment of the patient and choice of suitable local therapy, and the appropriate indication and use of products. Technological progress in the field of wound treatment has increased rapidly. Constant updating, with emphasis on available scientific evidence, is necessary to offer the best approaches to patients with acute and chronic wounds. A qualitative analysis of literature was conducted to identify scientific publications that update the concepts involved in local wound treatment, to present some resources that can aid the healing process and describe the different types of dressings available. This review includes wound assessment using the acronym TIME (tissue, infection/inflammation, moisture balance and edge of wound), cleaning and debridement, infection/inflammation control, exudate control, dressing types and main indications.

ABSTRACT:Vasculogenic ulcers may be of arterial, venous or arteriovenous (mixed) origin and compromise the dermis and epidermis, and may also affect deeper tissues, characterized by a chronic, painful and slow healing process, which impacts the quality of life and in the mental, physical and social aspects of the affected persons, thus leading them to the total dependence of the health service. The objective was to characterize the sociodemographic and clinical profile of patients with vasculogenic ulcers. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study developed at the Surgical Clinic in an Emergency Hospital in the Northeastern region of Brazil, with 38 patients with vasculogenic ulcers, from September to October 2016. Data were collected in patients' records and confirmed by interview. As a result of the sociodemographic profile, the majority were male (55.3%), brown (55.3%), elderly and adult (50%, each), married (50%), with income up to a minimum wage (81.6%), retirees (55.3%), attended the elementary school (57.9%) and all were from the Northeastern region of Brazil. Clinically, 34.2% had peripheral angiopathy, venous ulcers (50%), Arterial Hypertension and Diabetes Melitus (50%). The most frequent surgical procedure was amputation of the limb affected by the ulcer (55.3%). Knowing the profile of the clientele is fundamental for making better decisions and defining a clinical reasoning more appropriate to patients, which should be conducted in a comprehensive manner by the nursing team.

Objetivo: identificar as iatrogenias envolvidas no tratamento de feridas. Metodologia: estudo de revisão integrativa da literatura, cuja busca se deu nas bases da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, da Scientific Electronic Library Online e da Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde através do uso dos descritores controlados “feridas” OR “ferimentos e lesões” AND “curativos”, “feridas” OR “ferimentos e lesões” AND “tratamento”,” feridas” OR “ferimentos e lesões” AND “infecção”, “iatrogenias” AND “ferimentos e lesões”. Resultados: foram analisados 17 artigos. As principais iatrogenias encontradas foram Complicações na ferida: infecção, deiscência e atraso na cicatrização, avaliação e seleção de produtos para o tratamento, falha na indicação de terapias complementares, uso de terapia sem comprovação científica, falta de autonomia para a atuação da enfermagem no tratamento de feridas. Conclusão: Não foram encontrados estudos com destaque para as iatrogenias. As iatrogenias identificadas neste estudo nos levam a refletir que falhas no tratamento proposto pelo profissional da saúde pode corroborar para a cronicidade das feridas. O levantamento dessas iatrogenias pode trazer contribuições para melhorar a formação de enfermeiros e sua capacitação em serviço, a fim de reduzir a incidência desses problemas e aumentar a segurança e qualidade do cuidado.
