Avaliou-se a dinâmica florestal, em termos de incrementos, ingresso e mortalidade, de duas áreas, uma de floresta secundária e outra sob sistema silvipastoril, no município de Turvo (PR). Para o levantamento, foram medidas parcelas permanentes totalizando 1,68 e 1,8 ha, respectivamente. Todos os indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito maior que 5 cm foram considerados. Utilizou-se o centro de classe para análise das espécies por meio da cadeia de Markov. No ano de 2018, a floresta secundária apresentou 1.531 ind./ha-1, distribuídos em 33 famílias, 52 gêneros e 69 espécies. Já o sistema silvipastoril apresentou 594 ind./ha-1, com 22 famílias, 31 gêneros e 43 espécies. A distribuição diamétrica entre as áreas mostrou diferenças no número de indivíduos nas classes de 5 a 20 cm. O incremento de 2012 a 2018 foi de 6,11 m2 ha-1 na floresta e de 5,33 m2 ha-1 no silvipastoril. Concluiu-se que as áreas apresentam regeneração natural, evidenciada pelo padrão de distribuição diamétrica, e, apesar de ter menor número de ingressos, a área silvipastoril teve incremento periódico superior ao da área de floresta secundária. A área silvipastoril é prejudicada por ações antrópicas, de animais e climáticas, fatores que acentuam ainda mais a necessidade de estratégias de manejo para a sua conservação.

This study evaluated changes in the structure for remnant Mixed Ombrophilous Forest recovering from logging, which ceased over 40 years ago. Regarding the dynamics of the floristic composition of natural regeneration, 18 species remained (23.38% of the total) and 27 new species entered (35.06% of the total). The greatest increases were observed for Allophylus edulis, Myrsine umbellata, and Miconia cinerascens. When analyzing the dynamics of regeneration in ecological groups, it was observed that pioneer species had a similar value in both surveys (29.4% and 29.6%); secondary species decreased from 56.6% to 52.8%, and late-successional species increased from 0.2% to 6.0%. Therefore, the forest fragment studied is in a healing phase after disturbance, characterized by the increased regeneration of pioneer species as a result of sufficient light entering the interior of the forest.

This research aimed to develop statistical models to predict basal area increment (BAI) for Araucaria angustifolia using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Tree species were measured for their biometric variables and identified at the species level. The data were subdivided into three groups: (1) intraspecific competition with A. angustifolia; (2) the first group of species that causes interspecific competition with A. angustifolia; and (3) the second group of species that causes interspecific competition with A. angustifolia. We calculated both the dependent and independent distance and the described competition indices, considering the impact of group stratification. Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP) ANN was structured for modeling. The main results were that: (i) the input variables size and competition were the most significant, allowing us to explain up to 77% of the A. angustifolia BAI variations; (ii) the spatialization of the competing trees contributed significantly to the representation of the competitive status; (iii) the separate variables for each competition group improved the performance of the models; and (iv) besides the intraspecific competition, the interspecific competition also proved to be important to consider. The ANN developed showed precision and generalization, suggesting it could describe the increment of a species common in native forests in Southern Brazil and with potential for upcoming forest management initiatives.
