The emergence of citrus seedlings is influenced by several factors. One is the degree of brightness. The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the influence of four environments in the emergence of seedlings of five citrus varieties rootstocks. The work was carried out on private property located in the city of Alegre-ES, located at 20° 49' south latitude and 41° 32' west longitude and 322 m altitude. The experimental design was completely randomized in a split plot, with four rooms consisting of 0, 30, 50 and 80% shading in the plot and five varieties of rootstocks subplots, with four repetitions and twenty-five seeds per replicate. The rootstocks used were the Rangpur lime, lemon Volkameriano, Poncirus trifoliata, 'Swingle' citrumelo and Flying Dragon. After 60 days of sowing, emergence rate index, emergence percentage, leaf number and height were evaluated. At 124 days, leaf area, total chlorophyll (a + b), root dry mass and shoot were evaluated. The citric rootstocks tested responded differently when subjected to shading, and can use physiological and morphological mechanisms to maintain or even improve the emergence and seedling vigor. It was observed that the P. trifoliata rootstock obtained better performance when compared to others and that 50% shading can be adopted in this stage of citrus seedling production since it reduces seedling time in the tubes and does not affect the seedling quality.

This aim of this work was to evaluate the initial growth of Cordia trichotoma seedlings, submitted to different sizes of recipients and doses of controlled-release fertilizer (CRF). This experiment was performed in a greenhouse, and evaluation was done in factorial scheme using two volumes of recipients (110 and 180 cm 3 ) combined with five doses of CRF (0 (controlled); 2.5; 5.0 and 7.5 g L -1 de substrate). The experimental design was completely random with four repetitions each evaluated in factorial scheme. Significant interaction was observed between the size of the recipient and the doses of CRF for most analyzed variables. It indicated that, the quantity of fertilizer to be used depends on the size of the recipient, emphasizing that in the conditions in which the seedlings were produced; the minor volume of substrate does not cause restrictions on growth. It is perceived that most evaluated parameters need higher doses than the maximum provided, in at least one of the recipients, demonstrating elevated nutritional requirement of the species during the nursery phase. The recipient of 110 cm³, combined with the dose of 7.5 g L -1 of CRF is recommended because of the economy of substrate, nursery space and practicality of transportation.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphophysiological quality of yerba mate plantlets (Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil.) produced by mini-cutting at four different times of year and cultivated in different containers. For the rooting of mini-cuttings, shoots of four yerba mate clones were collected four times during the year (April, July and October 2014 and January, 2015), cut into single-budded mini-cuttings and planted in equal proportions of pine bark-based commercial substrate, vermiculite and coarse sand. After 60 days of cultivation in a wet chamber, the rooted mini-cuttings were transferred to different containers: a 100 cm³ rigid polyethylene tube container and 500, 1500 and 3000 cm 3 polyethylene bags containing pine bark-based commercial substrate and underground soil (2:1 v/v). A completely randomized design was used in a 4 x 4 factorial scheme, with five replications ranging from 5 to 20 mini-cuttings per experimental unit. The plantlets were evaluated for survival percentage, shoot height, stem diameter, shoot height/stem diameter ratio and number of leaves at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days of cultivation. At 120 days of cultivation, 10 plantlets from each treatment were randomly picked to evaluate shoot and root dry mass, Dickson quality index, shoot height, surface area, total volume and number of root tips. The best combinations of shoot height, length, surface area, total volume and number of root tips and Dickson quality index were found in plantlets produced in July, 2014, followed by plantlets produced in October,2014 and January, 2015. The polyethylene bags allowed the production of yerba mate plantlets with satisfactory quality of shoot and roots, regardless of the volume. Yerba mate plantlets can be produced by mini-cutting from July to January in polyethylene bags. Key words: Ilex paraguariensis. Plantlet production. Polyethylene bags. Season of the year.
