Background. Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary neoplasm of immature myeloid cells. Our study reports a presentation of myeloid sarcoma which presented with severe leukemoid reaction as a secondary malignancy in a patient who was treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia previously. The case emphasizes the difficulties in diagnosis of patients who do not have concomitant leukemia. Case Presentation. A 6-year-old girl who was treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia previously presented with fatigue, paleness, and hepatosplenomegaly. Peripheral blood smear and bone marrow aspirate examination did not demonstrate any blasts in spite of severe leukemoid reaction with a white cell count 158000/mm3. FDG/PET CT revealed slight uptake in cervical and supraclavicular lymph nodes. Excisional lymph node biopsy was performed from these lymph nodes and it showed myeloid sarcoma. Conclusion. Myeloid sarcoma can develop as a secondary malignancy in children who are treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It can be associated with severe leukemoid reaction and diagnosis may be difficult if there is not concomitant leukemia. PET/CT is helpful in such cases.

ÖzGranulocytic sarcoma is an extramedullary tumor of immature myeloid cells. Such tumors may be located in any part of the body. We report a case of isolated granulocytic sarcoma of finger; which, to our knowledge, is the first report of that localization. A thirty-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) presented with progressive swelling and onychoptosis at her right fourth finger. The distal phalanx was excised and the tumor turned out to consisted of atypical myeloid cells, infiltrating bone trabeculae. Despite its rarity, considering myeloid sarcoma of the finger as a possible diagnosis may prevent inappropriate treatment in leukemia patients.Granülositik sarkom, immatür myeloid hücrelerin oluşturduğu ekstramedüller bir tümördür. Vücudun herhangi bir yerinde görülebilir. Bu yazıda 30 yaşında, akut myeloid lösemi (AML) tanılı, kadın olguda el parmağında izlenen granülositik sarkom sunulmuştur. Literatürde bugüne kadar el parmağı lokalizasyonunda granülositik sarkom vakası bildirilmemiştir. Fizik muayene ve radyolojik incelemelerde distal falankstan köken alan yumuşak doku lezyonu izlenmiş ve lezyon eksize edilmiştir. Histolojisinde tümörün kemik yapıyı infiltre eden atipik myeloid hücrelerden oluştuğu gözlenmiştir. Nadir bir tümör olan granülositik sarkomun el parmağındaki görülebildiği, lösemi hastalarında en uygun tedaviyi gerçekleştirmek açısından akılda tutulmalıdır.

Iron deficiency anemia occurs due to iron deficiency and is considered the most common nutritional deficiency in the world. It can be triggered by iron malabsorption, low iron intake and blood loss, affecting mainly risk groups and presenting its characteristic symptoms. The objective of the present study is to carry out an integrative bibliographic review in relation to its clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects, associating it with risk groups, describing relevant points of the pathology, presenting adopted exams and describing therapeutic methods for the treatment. A literature review was carried out in publications of the type original scientific articles found through electronic databases SciELO, PUBMED, BVS, LILACS, Medline and GOOGLE ACADÊMICO, in English and Portuguese, published between 2006 and 2020, using criteria for inclusion and exclusion . 20 publications were found, of which 9 were included following the aforementioned criteria. Iron-deficiency anemia is considered an obstacle to public and global health because it affects fragile social strata in emerging countries. It is believed that adhering to healthy lifestyle habits, along with State support, can improve this problem and thus reduce the rate and prevalence of the disease.
